Here’s what to expect during Capricorn’s solar moment, and how to amp up your self care accordingly.
Date December 21, 2021
Welcome to Capricorn season — arguably the GOAT season and a time where things just have to make sense. During this placement we can explore themes around responsibility, commitment and initiative in our lives; all such grounding keystones that intertwine with this earth sign almost instinctively. So, with the sun’s return to Capricorn, let’s take a look at what’s in store for us all… and how to up our self care rituals accordingly.
Capricorn season occurs with the Winter Solstice each year in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the first winter season, and the long beginning of the return of greater light and warmth in our days. This can sound either discouraging and dreadful, or represent hope. Light a candle (we’re currently buzzing over the 4 Letter Series locally-poured candles) and get grounded on your mat to reflect on whichever feeling this brings you. Either one is okay.
Never mind it is the busiest time of the year, but Capricorn’s thirst for achievement and success will possibly give you extra motivation to reach for more.
“For some of us, we feel a sense of pressure to do more than we reasonably can, because the need around us is endless. And so we take on an overwhelming or burdensome amount, inevitably leading to a sense of failure when we can’t actually manage it all,” shares Toronto-based astrologer Aerin Fogel. Schedule some time for yourself to unplug, perhaps with a hardcover like Work Won’t Love You Back by labour journalist Sarah Jaffe.
Fogel explains that on the flip side, “others fear the weight of responsibility because we are afraid of doing it wrong, or disappointing the high standards we hold ourselves to. And so we avoid commitment altogether because it feels like too much pressure.”
Now is the time to evaluate which scenario resonates with you, and explore if it’s possible to find strength in agreements and initiatives, rather than fleeing them altogether. If you tend to lean toward the latter, look around for a crisp daily planner to devise clear game plans and achieve stability in the new year ahead. Don’t forget that you don’t have to do everything all at once!
This particular Capricorn season involves a Venus retrograde in the sign of Capricorn, which means we will also be reviewing the changes (and possibly the losses) that have occurred since spring 2020. It will benefit you to find space to accept what cannot be put back together, so that you can start finding a new way forward, said Fogel.
She describes it as fish in a pond. Changes in a larger ecosystem will always impact its contents, like fish in their pond. So when movement occurs in the solar system, or a change in our daily lives takes place, we will feel it. At this liminal time when we sit on the cusp of two years and reflect on everything that’s happened, zero in on principles that are paramount to Capricorn: quality, sustainability and right relationships with the earth. It is a powerful time to rebuild, reorient and upgrade your future.
