Gigi Hadid joined her family in sharing a sweet tribute to her brother Anwar Hadid’s late dog, Dexter.
Gigi, 30, posted a heartwarming photo of her 5-year-old daughter, Khai, petting the black Labrador mix, who was adopted by Anwar and his ex-girlfriend Dua Lipa in 2020.
“Fly high lil Dexter,” Gigi wrote via her Instagram Story on Sunday, February 1. “We loved babysitting you. You were a special, wonderful nephew and cousin (and best son to @anwarhadid). We’ll miss you so much. Rest easy.”
Hours earlier, Anwar, 26, revealed the sad news that his “best friend in the whole world passed away” on Saturday, January 31. He credited Dexter with helping improve his mental health during a particularly tough time.
“You came into my life when i wanted to end my life every day. And you left me today…. Im more ready than ever to live this beautiful life,” he wrote. “I had hoped it would be with you my little son… but i know you are with me in every single life time.. SEVEN!!! 7️⃣ now i got to fly solo. Ill miss you my angel. DEXTER!!!!! SOUR-PATCH KID.”
Gigi sent more love to her brother in the comments sections of his Instagram post, as she assured Anwar that Dexter was “so special and so loved.”
“[Dexter was] very lucky to have found a soulmate in you brother:) some of the best go too soon. Rest in peace dexter,” Gigi continued.
Their sister Bella Hadid promised Anwar that Dexter will live on “forever in our hearts.”
“The wisest sweetest best buddha boy I will miss you everyday and [Bella’s dog] Beans will miss her best friend every day,” Bella, 29, added. “You raised the bestest boy in the world my brother. My nephew for life 💯 he will be around you in spirit every day guiding you like the angel he is. I love you Dexy I love you Weesh.”
Anwar received more support from his parents, Mohamed and Yolanda Hadid, during his time of need. (Mohamed and Yolanda were married from 1994 to 2000. Mohamed shares two older daughters, Marielle and Alana, with his first wife, Mary Butler, and shares a 23-year-old daughter, Aydan Nix, with Terri Hatfield Dull.)
“We have loved this beautiful creature,” Mohamed said. “He lived in my house with Anwar for two beautiful years. He has the most beautiful face and eyes. We will miss him.”

In her own salute to Dexter, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda posited that “some souls choose fur so they can love and guide us more easily.”
“God lent us Dexter for six precious years and we all enjoyed every minute we got to spent with this little guy. Maybe little in size but a giant and powerhouse in personality. Anwar rescued him but he came with a purpose in return: to love, protect, and comfort my son,” she wrote via Instagram on Sunday. “They were inseparable. He was a big love in its littlest purest form. Wise and particular like a little old man… My son’s baby boy, our family’s heart, we will miss you.”
Yolanda concluded, “Run free, sweet angel… Thank you for your loyalty, your gentleness and the love you gave. You served your mission on earth and now you will be your daddy’s guardian angel in heaven. Oma loves you Dexter, you will be missed and live in our heart forever.”

Anwar and Lipa, 30, announced that they’d adopted Dexter in August 2020. At the time, they shared an adorable photo that drew special attention to a white fur patch on his chest.
“Our spirit companion came to us with a big number 7 on his chest.. some things are meant 2 be!!!!!!!! BIIG DEX,” Anwar announced at the time.
Anwar split from Lipa in December 2021 after two years of dating. The “Levitating” singer is now engaged to British actor Callum Turner.
