Release the Craven Cut!
Cursed from director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson is an enigma of horror history. The Scream collaborators were all set to totally breathe new life into the werewolf genre as far back as the year 2000. However, due to studio interference, things did not go as planned. After five years of development and brutal reshoots and recuts a totally different and neutered version of Cursed eventually graced theatres.
Now “The Craven Cut” is only whispered about in the corners of the web. This was the original version of Cursed which is rumored to do for werewolves what Scream did for slashers. Until Dimension studios got involved. They turned out a much more generic product that likely looks nothing like it was originally intended to.
New Gallery Revealed
Well, thanks to HelloSidney, a whole fresh new gallery of stills from the elusive Craven Cut has hit the internet. This bodes well to the fact that this cut of the film is out there. It may just see the light of day one of these full moons. One of the coolest aspects of these new images is the reveal of Skeet Ulrich’s character. Skeet, who starred in Scream, has yet to be seen in promo images or clips from the Craven Cut. This is definitely worth checking out.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the storyline for the original version of events involved three characters, a car crash and a mysterious road-side werewolf attack. The original new trio included Christina Ricci, Skeet Ulrich, and Jesse Eisenberg. BD also reported that there were a number of other cast members besides Ulrich who were eventually dropped due to prolonged shooting schedules.
Earlier this year Shout Factory announced a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release of Cursed, set to hit retail on April 26th. The special features for this new disc release are yet to be revealed, although there has been no mention of any Craven Cut material.
