Exclusive Interview: Adrian Dalton (HEAT deux L

How did you get attached to HEAT deux L.A. takedown?

I applied for the role of Louisa through Mandy and things just went from there.

Tell us a little bit about your character?

I think of Louisa as coming over quite naïve and girlish in some ways but life has hardened her and she’s become more jaded, materialistic and manipulative.

How was it working with Richard Driscoll ?

Working with Richard was so lovely. He was so encouraging and patient on set and made sure I felt welcome, I felt well looked after. He’s very down to earth and we had interesting chats, I was made to feel very at ease. He has such a strong vision and passion for what he does.

What was your favorite scene?

I liked the scene where Louisa is with her new husband when he’s on the phone. It just felt very her.

What was the most difficult aspect to making this film?

I think it was the accent! I was doing a Southern one (I see her having moved to LA from somewhere near Texas, totally my own imagination there), but it’s always a bit funny listening back and thinking, do I sound ok? Does that work? Also, I’m trans and non-binary, so my body’s partly male (anatomically). It’s a very twisty story. However, needless to say, playing a female role and dancing in a bra and pants was something I was worried I wouldn’t pull off, but luckily it all went well.

What makes this film stand out?

I think like the other films of Richard’s I’ve watched there’s just something about it that’s so different, it makes it hard to forget. With this one in particularly it’s got quite a menacing, gritty vibe to it. It has many twists and you never know what to expect.

Do you have any favorite horror films?

I love Stephen King’s IT. Both the old version and the new ones. The first Saw movie was great.

What made you want to get into acting?

I find it fascinating expressing what I think other characters feel and getting to inhabit their world. Also, I just love it and am a creative person. I think if you can get to do what you love then that’s amazing, so I feel very lucky.

Who inspires your creativity?

Jodie Comer! I’m still obsessed with Killing Eve.

What’s next for you?

I’ve been in a couple of short films, I have a small part in one of Richard’s next films and just finished filming another where I have quite a large role. Hopefully I’ll just get more and more work.
