It’s been a big year for FriGay The 13th. The DREAD Podcast Network show continued bringing fans thoughtful and funny insight into all of our favorite horror tropes. From oceanic terror to sky-high horror shows, co-hosts Andrew Huff and Matty Zaradich are truly bringing it with each new episode.

FriGay The 13th also just so happened to be crowned the 2021 LGBTQ+ Culture Award from Discover Pods, further cementing their status as a 100% must-listen to pod. While these two have been busy creating new episodes and snatching trophies, they’ve also assembled their favorite new episodes of the year.

Check out what Andrew and Matty have selected as their fave moments of 2021. Then make sure to to give them a listen! These are perfect gateway episodes into this fan-favorite podcast.

Episode 50: Love Can Be Terrifying

“I mean what’s not to love about love?!? This episode marks such an accomplishment for the pod. Not only did we reach 50 episodes, but we also joined Dread Podcast Network starting with this episode. Combined with creating our new opener, and reviewing the trashy films The Crush and Fear this one remains one of my favorites that we have done. With 50 full episodes in the can it really was one of those moments where we felt that we had truly accomplished something.”

Episode 57: Amusement Parks are Terrifying

“Amusement parks, there’s nothing to be scared of, right? Well that was what I thought before doing my research on this topic. In this episode we talked about some of the worst injuries sustained on those rickety rides we all rode as kids, and the stories still stick with me to this day! We also got to watch The Funhouse which was a first time watch that I finally got to check off my list, and Final Destination 3 which over the years has risen to be a top contender in the franchise for me. Not to mention this episode got the attention of the A.V. Club and was written up alongside some seriously awesome podcasts which was just a delight.”

Episode 64: Halloween 2021

“Halloween is just our thing. This episode was so fun to do because we just got to tell stories, and I got to break out some of my writing that I did at the young age of 13 and share it with our listeners. We also got to gush about Halloween classics Night of the Demons and The WNUF Halloween Special. I always love doing our Halloween episodes because it is just a little more freewheeling and carefree than some of our other hard-hitting topics.”

Episode 49: PUBLIC EDUCATION IS TERRIFYING

“I worked in higher education for 13 years, partnering with public school systems to help curate and deliver professional development to teachers. Education is near and dear to my heart, and it’s something that continually horrifies me in America: how do we keep it getting so wrong, over and over again? This episode was deeply meaningful– we were especially proud to bring a Chicago Public School teacher on the show as a guest for this episode, just before the district voted on a strike.”

Episode 47: OCEANS ARE TERRIFYING

“Our first episode of 2021 turned out to be one of our strongest. Oceans really do terrify me– the notion of a fathomless deep makes my blood run cold– and don’t even ask me to go swimming in deep water! We really enjoyed diving in pollution and climate change. Dead Calm remains one of my favorite horror films, and it was a blast to discuss in this episode.”

Episode 65: MONSTERS ARE TERRIFYING – VAMPIRES!

“The MONSTERS ARE TERRIFYING series was a new venture for us. It was good fun to bring new perspectives to these classic monster stories, and VAMPIRES was one of my favorites to explore. Vampires are so fascinating: they’re beautiful, they’re elegant, and yet… they’re also terrifying monsters that steal life from the living. Living in Ireland now, it was really an honor to bring Boys From County Hell to the table, too.”

Lastly, what have been some of your fave FriGay The 13th moments of the year? Personally, I loved hearing the boys unearth cryptids with The Mothman Diaries and Tremors. Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat all things FriGay!
