Gila Films, has recently released our debut feature, the “existential slasher” The Last Frankenstein, the film has played at over a dozen festivals worldwide, winning awards at several, with plans to release on Blu-Ray/DVD/VOD later this year.
A contemporary spin-off of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, The Last Frankenstein follows Jason Frankenstein, the last of his family line. Buried in a dormant existence and a dead-end job, Jason struggles to complete his ancestors’ infamous experiment. But when a creature from his past brutally re-enters his life, he is catalyzed to finally complete his work. With the help of a pair of drug dealing paramedics and a nurse with a shady past, he sets down the blood-soaked path to create a living being from the bodies of the dead.
Heavily influenced by film-making styles of the late ‘50s thru mid-‘80s, our film is awash in vintage aesthetic, mid-century locations, and award-winning practical effects…and it features the return to the screen of two veteran genre actors. Jim Boelsen, who appeared in the cult classic movies Strange Behavior and The Hazing, plays the key role of a college dean. And Robert Dix…whose work included the science fiction epic Forbidden Planet, the James Bond film Live and Let Die, and a number of drive-in classics from legendary director Al Adamson…brings to life the patriarch of the Frankenstein family.
