Horror Movie Memorabilia: Would You Pay Six Figures for a Killer Souvenir?

master mentalism tricks

Horror movies stick with you. It may be the jump scares, the eerie soundtracks, or your brain refusing to forget that one terrifying scene you saw as a kid. But for some horror fans, watching isn’t enough – they want to own a piece of the nightmare. And I’m not talking about those $10 replicas you can grab at a Halloween store. I mean the real thing.

Turns out, some of the most iconic props from horror movies have been auctioned off for jaw-dropping amounts. If you’ve got a spare six figures lying around, you might’ve had a shot at owning these legendary pieces. Let’s take a look at some of the priciest horror memorabilia ever sold.

The Zuni Doll from Trilogy of Terror – $217,600

If you’ve seen “Trilogy of Terror” (1975), you know exactly why this doll haunts people to this day. The little guy is pure nightmare fuel – razor-sharp teeth, wild eyes, and a serious grudge. The original screen-used Zuni Doll went up for auction and sold for a staggering $217,600. That’s a lot of money for something that looks like it could attack you in your sleep.

Of course, if you’re just looking for a creepy Zuni Doll to decorate your horror collection, replicas are easy to find. Some even pop up in mystery boxes from the best mystery box website, offering horror fans a shot at collectibles without draining their bank accounts. But the real deal? That’s collector territory.

Jack Torrance’s Axe from The Shining – $209,000

“Heeere’s Johnny!” If that line gave you chills, you’re not alone. Stanley Kubrick’s legendary “The Shining” from 1980 is packed with unsettling moments, but Jack Nicholson hacking through a bathroom door is the one that sticks with you.

And guess what? That very axe sold for a cool $209,000 at auction. That’s right – someone out there owns the actual prop used to smash through that door. I’d like to believe they keep it locked away in a display case, but if they ever decide to reenact the scene, I hope their doors are reinforced.

Jason’s Costume from Friday the 13th – $45,000

You can’t talk about horror legends without mentioning Jason Voorhees. The hockey mask alone is one of the most recognizable symbols in horror. But in 2023, a full Jason costume – mask, machete, and all – sold for $45,000.

Compared to some of the other items on this list, that almost feels…affordable? (Okay, maybe not, but you get my point.) And let’s be real, you could grab a Jason mask for a few bucks at a costume shop. But owning the actual one used in Friday the 13th? That’s next-level horror fandom.

Ghostface Mask from Scream – $270,900

Now, this one surprised even me. Out of all the horror props that have been auctioned off, it’s the Ghostface mask from Scream (1996) that takes the top spot – selling for $270,900. That’s more than the Zuni Doll, Jason’s costume, and Jack’s axe.

Why? Because Scream changed the game. It brought slasher films back to life, and the mask itself became an instant horror icon. The fact that someone was willing to shell out over a quarter of a million dollars for it? That just proves how much Scream still matters to fans.

Want Your Own Horror Collectibles?

Not all of us have six figures to drop on horror memorabilia, but that doesn’t mean you can’t own some seriously cool collectibles. Replica props, signed posters, and horror-themed mystery boxes make it easy (and way more affordable) to add a little horror magic to your collection.

Have you ever bought a horror collectible? What’s the one piece you’d love to own? I’d love to hear what’s on your horror wishlist!
