The trailer for Ari Aster’s latest film, Beau is Afraid looks like an incredible odyssey and unlike anything Aster has done before. The result looks like a Michel Gondry film with lots of red humor. However, the film has been rated R for strong violence and graphic nudity.
“Beau is Afraid is rated R for strong violent content, sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language.”
These rating bullet points aren’t all that surprising. Graphic nudity is sort of a change-up. I’m certain this will be made up of uncomfortable moments with Joaquin Phoenix turning up nude.
The synopsis for Beau is Afraid goes like this:
“A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from Ari Aster.”
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Parker Posey, and Patti LuPone.
A24 releases Aster’s Beau is Afraid on April 21.
