Umma follows in the footsteps of previous horror films that examine intergenerational trauma, such as Hereditary and Relic. However, Shim, who also wrote the script, provides a new perspective on the topic through a Korean-American lens.
Horror legend Sam Raimi is producing the film alongside Zainab Azizi.
MeeWha Alana Lee, Tom Yi, Odeya Rush, and Dermot Mulroney also star in the film.
Umma hits theaters on March 18, 2022.
