James Wan stays busy. Since the release of Saw in 2004, Wan has been writing, directing, producing, and just all-around shaping the entire contemporary horror landscape. His latest horror endeavor M3GAN has danced its way into theaters and into our hearts. And Wan shows no signs of stopping. In a recent interview with /Film, he shared that he wants to reboot two classic horror films: Chopping Mall and Night of the Creeps.

James Wan told /Film:

“I have many horror films that I think are just fun that I love, and I’m pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like ‘Chopping Mall.’ I love ‘Night of the Creeps.’ These, to me, are just sort of fun horror films that I would love to be able to dive into one day, or do them but with the way that I make my films.”

Night of the Creeps walked so James Gunn’s film Slither could run. Directed by Fred Dekker of The Monster Squad fame and starring horror icon Tom Atkins, “Alien brain parasites, entering humans through the mouth, turn their host into a killing zombie. Some teenagers start to fight against them.”

James Wan tackling sci-fi body horror is something we’d love to see. We’ve seen how well he can work within torture porn and haunted houses, so Wan-directed body horror is the next logical step. At least we think so.

Then, there’s Chopping Mall, a techno-slasher where a robot security system goes on a killing spree. The mall employees who decide to party after hours are trapped and are violently picked off one by one. This is another cult classic that oozes camp 80s sensibilities. But, it could easily be adapted into a darker reboot in the 2020s.

Just look at Wan’s work on M3GAN with writer Akela Cooper. They obviously have a grasp on the examination of human relationships with technology. Chopping Mall is a logical next step for him, hopefully with Cooper on board.

With his love of horror and demonstrated ability to create over-the-top camp classics, James Wan would deliver incredible reboots of either film. But which one do you think he should do first? Let us know on Twitter @DreadCentral!
