One of the best parts of The Conjuring 2 was the arrival of The Crooked Man. That small appearance lead to speculation that there would be a Crooked Man Spinoff. However, now that Wan is as busy as ever with both The Nun 2 and The Conjuring 4 coming up, those hopes have been removed.
“Throwback to my tall friend, the Crooked Man played by the incredible @jbotet. Javier’s movement was almost supernatural, some people knocked the character for being CGI.
I filmed him in slowmo and reverse playback — all old-school camera trickery. And no, unfortunately the spin-off movie with this character isn’t happening. Outside of my control. But maybe one day.” Wan wrote.
The Conjuring 2’s synopsis went like this:
“In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.”
Perhaps Wan will dig into The Crooked Man later down the line. But for the moment things are looking bleak for the fabled horror.
