It’s Surprising Cardi B Could Even Walk in Her All-Gold

Cardi B gave Donatella Versace quite the birthday present at the 2022 Met Gala. The fashion event happened to fall this year on the iconic designer’s birthday, May 2, and in celebration, Cardi wore an intricate all-gold creation from the Italian fashion house. Dripping in gold jewelry and chains, the dress was an on-the-nose interpretation of the “Gilded Glamour” theme. “I love the theme,” Cardi told Vogue on the red carpet. “Gilded is gold, it’s regal. It can be any era.”

In a making-of video shared with Vogue, Versace craftspeople said the halter-neck dress consisted of seven types of chains, nearly one kilometer of chains and jewelry, and 250 of the brand’s iconic Medusa elements. “She’s so brave to wear it because it’s so heavy,” Versace said. Even her makeup look was inspired by this year’s theme, “Cardi shines in her own right and with her flawless skin and beauty, it was easy to represent. From her lashes to the colors on her eyes, I want to her to sparkle like a goddess,” her makeup artist Erika La’ Pearl exclusively told POPSUGAR.

This is Cardi’s third time attending the Met Gala: she previously attended the camp-themed event in 2019 wearing a red Thom Browne gown, and the prior year, during her first pregnancy, Cardi wore a religious yet regal Moschino gown. See her latest Met Gala look ahead.
