Ahead of its theatrical release this Friday, Focus Features has dropped another trailer for Downtown Abbey: A New Era, the forthcoming follow-up to Julian Fellowes’ 2019 historical drama film. The video continues to highlight the Dowager Countess’ newly-acquired villa in South France and the mysterious story behind it.
The sequel was first released in theaters in the United Kingdom on April 29. It is slated to make its U.S. theatrical release this May 20.

Downton Abbey: A New Era sees the return of the critically acclaimed show’s main cast, including award winning actress Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, and more. The initial film followed a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England, and ended with a ball fitting for the Royal Family.
“The much-anticipated cinematic return of the global phenomenon reunites the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa,” reads the synopsis.
Joining the original cast in the sequel are new cast members, Hugh Dancy (Elizabeth I), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Nathalie Baye (The Young Lieutenant), and Dominic West (The Affair).

The sequel is directed by BAFTA-nominated director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) from a screenplay written by Julian Fellowes, who is also serving as a producer along with Emmy and BAFTA Award winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award winning Liz Trubridge.
