During Friday’s Disney and Marvel Games showcase, a remaster of the fan-favorite Gargoyles video game was announced.

The game will be developed by Empty Clip Studios (via IGN), a studio that most recently worked on Streets of Kamurocho, a beat ’em up game that acted as a mashup between Streets of Rage 2 and the Yakuza series. That title was released as freeware by Sega in 2020, in celebration of the studio’s 60th anniversary.
While not too much was revealed during the showcase, IGN also mentions that Gargoyles Remastered is currently planned to release on console and PC with updated visuals and controls. No official release date or any other features have been announced as of yet, though, so fans will have to wait for more information as development moves further along.
Originally released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis, Gargoyles was a platform game that was based on the hit Disney animated series of the same name. In the game, players controlled Goliath, one of the Gargoyles, as they fought to defeat the Eye of Odin, a magical talisman that transforms people who touch it. The game itself was relatively short, lasting just five levels — each with its own boss fight — but was well received at the time of its launch.

The news of a Gargoyles remaster also comes shortly after series creator Greg Weisman said that he was working to bring the property back to life in comic form. In July, Weisman tweeted out that he was working on a new Gargoyles comic for Dynamite Comics and Disney, giving fans some hope that a future show revival might also come to be.
