Ghost of Tsushima Sequel Further Hinted at Through New Job

Sucker Punch Productions hasn’t officially spoken about what its next project is. However, some recent job listings point to it being related to Ghost of Tsushima, possibly even a sequel to the highly acclaimed open-world action game.

There are currently 14 listings on the jobs portion of Sucker Punch’s website, many of which the company posted in February. A few of them are fairly standard, which is likely why it didn’t garner much attention during the time. But, upon closer inspection, there are also a couple that point to or hint at Ghost of Tsushima. For example, the postings for a senior combat designer and technical combat designer specifically require that applicants have “played Ghost of Tsushima and understand its core combat systems.”

The multiplayer and network programmer listing doesn’t point as directly to the series, but does indicate that this next project (or projects) will have a multiplayer component. The introduction spells out Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the game’s post-launch online mode, whereas the other listings don’t. This also implies that another Ghost of Tsushima would possibly launch with multiplayer if it wasn’t a separate thing entirely.

Some of the other posts are more vague, with only small morsels that could possibly be interpreted as being related to Ghost of Tsushima. A few, like the senior animator, AI systems designer, graphics programmer, and writer all point to an open world, the latter of which explicitly states it. There were also previous job listings that had the studio looking for someone willing to write stories in Feudal Japan.

The listings that mention platforms also only call out the PlayStation 5, meaning that Sucker Punch’s next title probably won’t be cross-platform. While Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, and Returnal are first-party PS5 exclusives, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War Ragnarök are all on both PS4 and PS5. This would line up with future first-party games like Wolverine and Spider-Man 2, which are only on PS5.

Sucker Punch has not revealed what game or games it is working on. However, these listings point to a project or projects with an open world that has combat and multiplayer, which could also be used to describe Ghost of Tsushima, making it natural to assume that a sequel is on the way. The game also reviewed well — it sits at an 85 on OpenCritic — and sold over 8 million copies.
