Remember when Netflix randomly released a trailer for a movie called Cliff Beasts 6 that didn’t actually exist? That was all part of the build-up to this: The trailer for the movie that chronicles the fictional making of Cliff Beasts 6: Judd Apatow’s new comedy The Bubble. Confused yet?
In the film, it’s the summer of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the globe, and an intrepid/stupid bunch of filmmakers are assembled in England to try to make a blockbuster inside a Covid bubble. Things do not go according to plan. (If they did, you wouldn’t have much of a movie, would you? You’d just have a very competently made blockbuster called Cliff Beasts 6.)
The cast of familiar faces include Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Pedro Pascal, and Peter Serafinowicz. Here’s the real trailer for the real movie:
If you missed it earlier in the week, here’s the Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle For Everest trailer again:
Here The Bubble’s official synopsis:
A comedy about a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a sequel to an action franchise film about flying dinosaurs.
And here is the official synopsis of Cliff Beasts 6, which Netflix helpfully included in the press release:
Humankind is threatened once again by a dinosaur species: Cliff Beasts. The team must reunite, after 5 long years, to battle the Cliff Beasts – but this time on Mount Everest.
The Bubble premieres on Netflix on April 1. (And no, this is not an April Fool’s Day prank.) Let’s hope it’s more like Tropic Thunder and not America’s Sweethearts.
