New Cozy Books to Read With Your Book Club

I read the first book in the Savvy Summers series last year, and I can still remember its mouth-watering food descriptions. The delectable coziness continues as Savvy, the titular restaurant-owning amateur sleuth, is hired to cater a company luncheon at an office building when a person is found murdered in a conference room. Now her food and business are at the center of a homicide investigation…again. —Erica Ezeifedi

After losing almost everything, Emma Rogers-Li finds a new job managing a bookshop in small-town Vermont. She’s ready to finally take charge of her own life until she literally smacks into Hunter Hall, a surly forest ranger. Town legend says that any couple that meets (crashes) at the corner is meant to be, and now the gossip is swirling about Emma and Hunter. Emma’s busy falling in love with her new town, but is there room for romance, too? —Courtney Rodgers

I love it when cozy books have just a smidge of spookiness; it makes them all the more perfect for fall. In the second book in the Dead & Breakfast Mystery series, we’re treated to a return of Arthur Miller (no, not that one) and Salvatore Conte. The lovable vampire couple is busy with their inn when a pet psychic gets poisoned, and their attention gets shifted. They find out that the psychic was part of a coven of witches who sell their magic, and are left wondering if perhaps the murdered psychic angered the wrong sister witch. A lot of delightful silliness goes down as they solve both the mystery of who killed the psychic, and what happened to their friend’s missing mother. —Erica Ezeifedi

This sweet work of Japanese healing fiction is a contemplative read. It features a bookshop that only appears when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. The woman who tends to the bookstore (and her very opinionated cat) helps customers heal their grief by allowing them a singular magical experience. Whether that’s a meeting with a departed loved one or the opportunity to relive childhood experiences, Asakura’s short novel is a gentle read that delivers humor and insight in equal measure. —Anne Mai Yee Jansen
