There are a lot of big books coming out this fall, many of which will probably be covered in our round-up of what the biggest book clubs are reading. If your club is looking for something more low-key and comforting, though, you might want to add a new cozy title to your reading list. You can even bump the cozy up a notch by having a couple of silent reading sessions, where members meet up just to read in silence together. I found the silent reading event I went to earlier this year to be super relaxing, even though the book I read wasn’t cozy.

In the second book in the Dead & Breakfast Mystery series, we’re treated to a return of Arthur Miller (no, not that one) and Salvatore Conte. The lovable vampire couple is busy with their inn when a pet psychic gets poisoned, and their attention gets shifted. They find out that the psychic was part of a coven of witches who sell their magic, and are left wondering if perhaps the murdered psychic angered the wrong sister witch. A lot of delightful silliness goes down as they solve both the mystery of who killed the psychic, and what happened to their friend’s missing mother. —Erica Ezeifedi
The Vanishing Cherry Blossom Bookshop by Takuya Asakura
This sweet work of Japanese healing fiction is a contemplative read. It features a bookshop that only appears when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. The woman who tends to the bookstore (and her very opinionated cat) helps customers heal their grief by allowing them a singular magical experience. Whether that’s a meeting with a departed loved one or the opportunity to relive childhood experiences, Asakura’s short novel is a gentle read that delivers humor and insight in equal measure. —Anne Mai Yee Jansen
