Prime Videos New Viking Shows First Look Reveals House of the Dragon-Level Family Chaos

Prime Video has revealed first-look images from a new Norse drama about a violent battle for Norway’s throne. The story follows a powerful couple caught in a struggle involving rival kings, shifting alliances, and brutal betrayals. As the power struggle escalates, even family relationships will inevitably face considerable pressure.

Bloodaxe comes from Michael Hirst, creator of Vikings and Horatio Hirst. Xavier Molyneux stars as Erik Bloodaxe, while Jessica Madsen plays his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. The first season will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The series has also been renewed for a second season, with production already underway in Ireland.

A battle for Norway’s crown pits brother against brother

Bloodaxe follows Erik Bloodaxe, one of the most famous Norse raiders in history, as he fights for the throne of Norway. His wife, Gunnhild, plays a central role in the struggle, with the couple facing fierce opposition as competing factions battle for control of the kingdom.

The power struggle will also draw other Scandinavian kings into the war. A powerful English ruler also becomes involved as the conflict spreads beyond Norway. As loyalties constantly change, the fight for the crown brings violent confrontations and betrayals.

The newly released images provide a first look at the characters and the Norse setting of the upcoming series. The family tensions and ruthless power struggle could appeal to viewers drawn to the political and family chaos of House of the Dragon.

Michael and Horatio Hirst serve as the showrunners and writers, with both also executive producing Bloodaxe. Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin are also executive producers. The cast features Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen.

Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for Bloodaxe, but all eight episodes of Season 1 will premiere at once.
