A new report from VentureBeat focusing on the departure of Dan Hay from Ubisoft has revealed an interesting bit of information on the future of the Far Cry series.

Hay, who was one of the “driving forces” behind the iconic Far Cry series, has left the company. In the report, it was mentioned that Hay was already at work on the next entry in the series, which Ubisoft reportedly intends to launch as a “live-service” game similar to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Such a report came through from about a month ago through Axios (as shown through VideoGamesChronicle) and was somewhat hinted at by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.
It’s currently unclear exactly what a live-service Far Cry would look like, as the report doesn’t mention too much else, but it wouldn’t be too shocking to see Ubisoft attempt to dive into the model of games. If it’s anything like Ubisoft’s plans for Assassin’s Creed Infinity, however, the game will likely try to incorporate multiplayer aspects as well a variety of staples to the live-service genre.

Live-service games have quickly taken over the world of gaming, with titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny, and more changing the way players interact with games recently. While Far Cry has traditionally been known for its heavy focus on single-player narratives, the open-world and general chaotic nature of gameplay from the series would lend itself well to a constantly updating title.
