At least one of our beloved characters is going to end up in the hospital in the One Chicago crossover, airing on January 29.
The promo for the three-part event (the first since 2019!), starting with Chicago Fire at 8/7c, then leading into Chicago Med and concluding with Chicago P.D. — the first two shows are swapping time slots — reveals that Platt (Amy Morton) must be rushed to the hospital. An emotional Mouch (Christian Stolte) stand by, pleading with his wife, “Trudy, can you hear me?”
This isn’t surprising, given what P.D. executive producer Gwen Sigan previously told TV Insider: “Trudy plays a big part in the crossover. We got to give Amy a lot to do and it was really exciting. I mean, she’s so good and I feel like we were finally able to give her something different. I think you’ll see a different side of her character in the crossover, which is nice.”
The rest of the promo shows the devastating gas explosion that rocks a high-rise, with many victims — and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are among those trapped underground. Kidd takes control of the situation, telling passengers to stay on the train until the ground settles. But then as the foundation is about to give way, Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) must give the order to evacuate. Severide (Taylor Kinney), understandably, is worried: “People are still on that train, including my wife!” It’s just going to get worse when they start running out of air … and then Pascal can’t reach Kidd. When we spoke with Flueger ahead of his latest heartbreaking P.D. episode, he’d teased that he got to work with Mayo. “What an absolute blast. Miranda and I have been quite close for a long time. We travel together, we’re pals outside of everything. So getting to finally actually act with her, which I’ve never done before, and if we have, it’s been with a lot of people around, so to do a little one-on-one with her was really fun,” he shared.
“We had a good time, really supportive of each other, and I think we found things that weren’t necessarily on the page and we had a really good team that we worked with as far as the day players and even the background folks that we were working with were incredible. So I’m excited for people to see it. People were acting their pants off from top to bottom. I mean, you’re talking about the person the furthest in the background, these people were giving it. It was impressive.”
