The Ed Wynn show aired from September 22, 1949 to July 4, 1950 on CBS. It was broadcast live in Hollywood and recorded via kinescope, sent east and broadcast a week later. The show gave a lot of stars their first live TV appearance and won an Emmy award for best live show in 1950. As far as classic television shows go, I like this one. Ed Wynn can’t be beat! Listen to see of you can hear when he uses his “Mid-Atlantic” accent, he sounds very unnatural when he uses it.
This copy was in terrible shape and I have attempted to restore it, something I hope to get better at as I continue. Some of the old TV shows are really in bad shape but are easily watchable with some small adjustments. Early television had some hilarious moments due to the fact that the shows were live and so many of the stars had done radio before, not having any real live audience experience.
Camel Cigarettes was actually the second sponsor of the show. For more free, full length classic television episodes and classic movies, subscribe as I add one or two a week. Thanks for watching!
