ComingSoon isexclusivelyrevealing the trailer for The Militia, an upcoming military drama film from filmmaker Dylan King Welter. The film’s digital distribution rights were picked up by Freestyle Digital Media, the film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group. The Militia will be released on Digital and physical media later this year. It originally premiered at Los Angeles’ Dances with Films festival in 2025.
The Militia will tell the story of Daniel Pierce, a teenager who wants to join the local militia and stand up to the government like his father. Pierce recruits his friends to confront the local sheriff and rescue his father when he goes into hiding after skipping bail.

What do we see in the exclusive trailer for The Militia?
The trailer starts with Pierce expressing his desire to join the local militia, which is encouraged by his father. The duo soon runs into the local sheriff, who seems to have an axe to grind against Pierce’s father. Pierce is then shown recruiting his friends to form his own militia group amidst rising tensions in the local community. Several shots hint at the tensions escalating into a battle between Pierce’s group and the other law enforcement officials.
“The Militia is a cautionary tale about the dark places that blind allegiance can take us. It’s a haunting look into a world where might is right and therefore how could harm be wrong?” said director Welter. “The aim was to make a discussion piece where no matter your political leanings, we can all agree that actions have consequences and sometimes the ends do not justify the means.”
It was written and directed by Dylan King Welter. Bruno Albuquerque produced the film. Welter previously helmed the feature Confinement, and the miniseries Classic Climbs. He also directed the short films The Launch, Canopy, and The Undercard.
The film stars Sam Williamson, Michael Broderick, and Luke Stratte-McClure. Broderick has also voiced the Human Torch in the tie-in video game for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Freestyle Digital Media negotiated a deal with the filmmakers and Dances With Films to acquire The Militia.
The Militia will be released on Digital, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms on September 8, 2026.
