Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival Will Not Return

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles is skipping 2022, his manager Chris Clancy tells Billboard, and is planning to bring the festival back next year.

“It’s really not that deep,” says Clancy of the Goldenvoice-produced event. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.”

This has been an unusual year for festivals, as large-scale events largely returned from the pandemic. The festival space was more crowded and oversaturated in 2022 than many expected as promoters created new events to take advantage of an uptick in ticket buying and fan demand at the beginning of the year for events like Coachella and Outside Lands. But as the summer festival season dragged on, ticket sales for events held later in the year began to decline, leading to a number of cancellations — including Goldenvoice’s hip hop-focused Day N Night, which was canceled in July, weeks after going on sale.

Camp Flog Gnaw was last held Nov. 9-10, 2019, after moving to Dodger Stadium from Exposition Park the year before. The 2019 event featured performances from Solange, YG, FKA twigs, Juice WRLD, Brockhampton, H.E.R., Daniel Caesar, Clairo, DaBaby and 21 Savage. The festival’s Twitter account hasn’t been active since then.

Last year, Tyler, the Creator released his sixth studio album, Call Me If You Get Lost — his second album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Since, he has toured extensively, playing arenas with Kali Uchis, Vince Staples and Teezo Touchdown for a 34-date North American tour with further headline performances in Europe and Australia.

Camp Flog Gnaw was first launched in 2012 with Odd Future and Lil Wayne at Club Nokia in Los Angeles as OFWGKTA Carnival, an expansion of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All collective that Tyler, the Creator founded with Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Syd the Kid, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain and others. It has since grown to become one of Los Angeles’ premiere festivals.
