You’ll be getting football and basketball on Super Bowl Sunday. HBO has released the official trailer for Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, which will run during the Big Game on NBC.
“I don’t care who you are. If you’re a human being with two eyes and a heart, this game, this industry make you feel good,” Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly) says, but Jessie (Sally Field) wants to know, “What industry? Sweat socks?” No, he’s talking about show business.

The 10-episode series premieres on Sunday, March 6, at 9/8c on HBO. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max. Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, it follows “the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties — a team that defined an era, both on and off the court.”
Adam McKay serves as executive producer and directed the pilot. Max Borenstein is showrunner, executive producer, writer, and co-creator, while Jim Hecht is executive producer, writer, and co-creator. Also serving as executive producers are Kevin Messick, writer Rodney Barnes, Jason Shuman, and Scott Stephens.
