Christina Aguilera opened up about facing pressure to change her last name in the entertainment industry.
Following the release of her Spanish-language album Aguilera earlier this year, Christina explained in a recent interview that the name came because she is “proud to be an Aguilera.”
“Something that I really embody and understand is that this is a name that has been tried to be taken away from me on numerous occasions coming up in this business,” she continued.
“It’s not the easiest name for everyone to pronounce,” Xtina added. “It’s been butchered a lot.”
As for the “bad names that [she] could have been,” Christina preferred not to repeat what was in the cards from industry execs.
“But I was like, ‘No, I’m Aguilera. I’m proud of where I come from, my father being from Ecuador,'” she said. “Why not come full circle in all of the chapters and close it on a name, my name?”
This isn’t the first time Christina has addressed earlier discussions surrounding her name. Back in 2020, she recalled, “I remember when I was first coming up, there was a big debate around me on changing my last name because all the businessmen around me thought it was too long, too complicated, and too ethnic.”
