Why Joe Manganiello & Sofia Vergara ‘Bickered’ All The Time

It sounds like Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara were struggling with their marriage for a long time.

By now you most likely have heard the news that the pair are going their separate ways after seven years of marriage. The split came as a shock to many fans. Despite appearing to be such a happy couple, Sofia and Joe kept a lot of their relationship problems a secret from the public.

A source close to the 46-year-old actor shared with People that the former couple were “often bickering about the small things” as they were “both very stubborn” people. This created a “very negative energy” in their relationship, especially over the “past few months.” The insider added:

“They were really trying to make it work though. They do love each other. No one wants to constantly bicker with their spouse though. Joe has absolutely nothing bad to say about her. She is a great woman. They were just not great together in the long run.”

It wasn’t just the constant arguing that hurt their marriage! We’ve heard since their divorce announcement that their lifestyles weren’t compatible from day one of their relationship, which eventually caused a rift between them. Now, the People insider is echoing a very similar sentiment. Although the attraction between Joe and Sofia was never a problem, that wasn’t enough to offset the differences in their personalities at the end of the day. The source told the outlet that the duo were “always very different,” adding:

“Their physical attraction to each other only carried their marriage that far. On a day-to-day basis, there are so many other things that need to work. There were several things that didn’t work.”

Another insider pointed out that they “differ immensely in style and what they like to do, although during the marriage, each tried to put the other’s interests ahead of their own to make it work.” Beyond Sofia and Joe’s contrasting personality, he ultimately couldn’t handle how she was dealing with fame!

A family friend revealed to The US Sun that he was never “really comfortable” with the Modern Family actress’ lavish Hollywood lifestyle and missed his life before their marriage. In fact, the Magic Mike alum could be leaving El Lay for a more “small town” vibe now that he’s done with Sofia! The pal explained:

“I don’t think Joe was ever really comfortable in a giant Los Angeles mansion or on the beaches of Saint Tropez. He saw that stuff for what it was and only let it into his life because it made Sofia happy. No way is Joe staying in Beverly Hills now that he’s out of this marriage, and I would not be shocked if he found some modest small town to settle down in. He misses the backyard barbecues and friend group he had in the early days of his career, and he tried to recreate that vibe during this marriage, without much success.”

Whoa! They continued, noting that Joe never had any intentions of “conquering the world like Sofia is” during his career:

“Joe is basically a normal guy trapped in the body of a superhero, in this industry full of deeply weird and needy people. To his credit, he’s been careful and smart with the money he’s made from acting but Joe isn’t interested in conquering the world like Sofia is. He was never willing to play that game.”
