M. Night Shyamalan is a divisive figure in cinema. People seem to absolutely love his work or absolutely hate it. There isn’t a lot of middle ground. But those that love his output are fiercely loyal to the director. Shyamalan enthusiasts have been showing their appreciation for one of his films of late and it’s charting on Max. I’m talking about Signs.
Signs is the 5th most-watched feature on the platform today and the #1 horror movie overall. Not too shabby for a flick that was released way back in 2002.
While not all of Shyamalan’s films have resonated with critics, Signs managed to win them over. The picture is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with an approval score of 75%. Moreover, the picture boasts an audience approval rating of 67% on the aggregate review site.
Signs features a cast full of recognizable names. The talent roster includes Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin, and Cherry Jones. Shyamalan penned the script in addition to sitting at the helm of this twisty effort.
In case you’re unfamiliar, the setup goes like this:
Everything that farmer Graham Hess (Gibson) assumed about the world is changed when he discovers a message – an intricate pattern of circles and lines – carved into his crops. As he investigates the unfolding mystery, what he finds will forever alter the lives of his brother (Phoenix) and children (Culkin), (Breslin). A unique story that explores the mysterious real-life phenomena of crop signs and the effects they have on one man and his family.
That’s all we have for you at present, dear reader. But stay tuned to the site for more updates on which films are streaming and where to find them in the near future. Also, be sure to follow @DreadCentral on Twitter so you never miss an important update.
