The Five Best Indie Films of the 2020s (So Far)

Things are picking up in the horror movie space this month. After a sparce start with a few good titles, it’s finally time to get to the good stuff, or at least the trailers make them look good. We’ve compiled a list of upcoming horror films for the month of March so you too can get a glimpse of what’s in store.

We are particularly interested in the Netflix Charles Manson doc, and Samara Weaving’s latest, Borderline. That’s another bit of good news: Some of these titles are skipping theaters and going straight to streaming which normally has us worried. However, the one’s dropping on streaming look compelling, like Dennis Quaid in Happy Face (Paramount+) or Nicole Kidman in Holland (Prime).

So allow us to offer you a list of what’s coming in March and let us know which ones you’re going to mark your calendar for and which you’re going to skip.

Bloat: March 7 (in theaters)

It follows a mother and two sons vacationing in Japan. Their younger son almost drowns in a lake, and soon after the accident, the parents realize that something is wrong with their boy.

A bodyguard protects a pop superstar and her athlete boyfriend from a determined stalker in 1990s Los Angeles.

Chaos: The Manson Murders: March 7 (Netflix)

Directed by Errol Morris, CHAOS: The Manson Murders untangles a web of conspiracy involving the CIA, LSD, Jack Ruby, the Manson Family, and Vincent Bugliosi, casting doubt on the official story of the 1960s’ most infamous killing spree.

A new Horror-Comedy about a couple who struggle to learn the origins of their pregnancy– a demonic entity that emerges from the body.

A couple rents a countryside house for a weekend with their parents and then discover it’s inhabited by a 400-year-old poltergeist.

Happy Face: March 20 (Paramount+)

The story of Melissa Jesperson-Moore, who at age 15 discovered that her father, Keith Hunter Jesperson, was the serial murderer known as the Happy Face Killer.

Bloody Axe Wound: March 21 (Shudder)

Abbie Bladecut is a teenager torn between the macabre traditions of her family’s bloody trade and the tender stirrings of her first crush. In the small town of Clover Falls, Abbie’s father, Roger Bladecut, has built an infamous legacy by capturing real-life killings on tape and selling them to eager customers, but as Abbie delves deeper into the grisly family business, she begins to wonder if it’s time to take the family tradition in a new direction. The film stars Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown, Eddie Leavy, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Billy Burke.
