When I pitched this story a few weeks ago, I thought it was cold. Turns out I didn’t know what was coming! This week, the temps in NYC have been hitting the teens on the regular, and apparently a snowstorm is imminent, so now I am reminded what cold really is. I guess this roundup couldn’t come at a better time, because I am practicing what I preach in every sense of the phrase. So what is getting me through this freeze? Besides hot beverages, way too many taxi rides, emotional-support snacks, and a heavy moisturizing cream, there are a handful of fashion-related essentials that have helped soften the blow this winter and keep me and my body somewhat warm. To read about and shop each piece, simply keep scrolling.
1. Touchscreen-compatible gloves
Because it’s too cold to take off your gloves every time you need to send a text or answer a call.
2. Long down and shearling coats
We’re beyond wool coats or short coats—it’s a time for full-body coverage in the warmest materials possible.
3. Leggings
For wearing under another pair of pants.
4. Loose pants
How loose? Loose enough to fit over the aforementioned leggings.
5. Giant scarves
I, personally, am not a hat person, so I like a scarf that’s big enough to wrap around a couple times and cover my ears if needed.
6. Warm layering tops
During these times, a simple cotton base layer just won’t do.
7. Cashmere socks
Don’t forget about your feet! Even in boots, they can still feel cold, and cashmere socks will help combat that.
