A fan on Reddit recently shared a theory about why the character may have undergone this change.

Why has Lexie changed so much after returning to Days of Our Lives?

Days of Our Lives brought Lexie back after 15 years. Between her death and return, Lexie appeared from heaven to help Abe save Paulina, who was dying. Lexie died, went to heaven, and later appeared again, a storyline that aligns with plot devices the soap has used over the years.

Characters who visit from heaven and are later resurrected do not appear to retain memories of those events. If that is the case, Lexie could be upset that Abe and Paulina moved on, despite previously giving them her blessing.

One Reddit user raised this possibility. “I wonder if Lexie will remember coming down from Heaven and giving Abe and Paulina her blessing,” the user wrote. Another user replied, “That’s a very good question. But, days of our lives will probably erase that as if it never happened.” A third user responded, “I think that Lexie is some kind of clone. Rolf probably did some Frankenstein stuff and turned some random woman into Lexie,” offering another theory.

However, the show has not confirmed whether Lexie remembers her visit from heaven. Some fans speculate that a lack of those memories could explain her current attitude. They believe this is why she appears harsher than before.
