Will Outlander: Blood of My Blood Bring Back More Legacy Characters After Season 2s Premiere?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is back, and with it the return of some familiar faces played by new performers as Season 2 uncovers what happened to Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield) at the standing stones of Craigh Na Dun. Warning: Spoilers for the Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 premiere ahead!

As the episode quickly reveals, Henry was sent whirling through time once again when he had a scuffle with Arch Bug (Terence Rae) and was stabbed with his jewel-laden dagger, allowing him to pass through the invisible time portal. Forced to return to Castle Leathers and Lord Lovat (Tony Curran), Julia was bereft, but Henry was equally tortured as he experienced electroshock therapy at the asylum in Inverness in 1924.

As he experienced a range of trauma, even seemingly forgetting his young daughter Claire’s existence as a result of the treatments, it was the kindness of a few familiar characters that helped aid his predicament. It was Reverend Wakefield (Tom Ashley) and Mrs. Graham (Emma Hartley-Miller) who appeared as their younger selves in Blood of My Blood.

They were originally introduced inOutlander‘s first season (where they were played by James Fleet and Tracey Wilkinson) during Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) trip to Scotland with her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Ultimately, Mrs. Graham proved to be an ally when it came to Claire understanding the journey she took through time, and it seems that she is going to be the same for Henry in this prequel series, as she reassured the tortured man that she believed his ramblings about existing in the 1700s.

But with these two familiar characters back on our screen, we’re curious: Could there be more on the horizon? We asked executive producer Maril Davis as much at the New York City premiere of Blood of My Blood Season 2, and she noted, “Obviously we see young Claire, but… I don’t know if we do, but you’ll just have to wait and see.”

“I think Mrs. Graham and Reverend Wakefield were so fun,” Davis acknowledged, echoing sentiments she and fellow executive producer Matthew B. Roberts shared in our Season 2 premiere aftershow. “It was so fun to cast them and try to find people who embodied their spirit; it just fit in so well. And that’s the thing, we’d love to bring back those characters as long as it fits organically into the story.”

So the door isn’t closed to legacy characters, but fans shouldn’t necessarily hold their breath for more in Season 2 of Blood of My Blood, which will continue to unfold on Starz in the weeks ahead.
