Filmmaker Tyler Perry is expanding his studios with a new specialty division and its first thriller. Tyler Perry Studios’ recently launched specialty division, Maxscene, will produce the upcoming film Conditioned. The film will be written and directed by Courtney Glaudé, the first filmmaker to join Maxscene.
According to Deadline, while plot details are being kept under wraps, Maxscene is looking for an early 2027 release date for Conditioned. “It’s exciting to see that a studio hasn’t given up on creators, especially given the state of the industry,” said Glaudé. “As an indie filmmaker, these waters can sometimes feel impossible to navigate, so to have a company that allows you to stay true to your voice is almost unheard of.”
The filmmaker added that partnering with Maxscene “feels historic.” Glaudé thanked Antoinetta Stallings, Head of Development & Acquisitions at Tyler Perry Studios, calling her a “visionary” as she leads the division.
Maxscene was built to empower filmmakers with distinct voices by offering them the opportunity to secure a theatrical release for their films.

Glaudé has worked with Perry on a variety of projects. He was hired as the Executive Creator of Scripted and Unscripted at Tyler Perry Studios in 2024. He currently helms multiple seasons of Sistas, Ruthless, and Zatima. Glaudé made his feature directorial debut with 2023’s The Reading, which premiered on Bet+.
“Courtney is exactly the kind of filmmaker we envisioned Maxscene championing. He’s a multi-hyphenate writer, director, and producer with a clear point of view and a real command of grounded storytelling. His films are rooted in reality, but there’s always a darkness underneath that pulls you in and stays with you long after the credits roll,” said Stallings. She added that Conditioned will use “tension and psychological unease to explore deeply human issues” that people otherwise wouldn’t want to talk about.
It remains to be seen exactly when Conditioned will be released in theaters. Meanwhile, Perry is also working on a new Netflix film, led by I Love Boosters star Taylour Paige.
