BayView Entertainment has officially acquired and set a June release date for the acclaimed documentary All Hail the Popcorn King, a definitive look into the life and wildly imaginative mind of award-winning author Joe R. Lansdale. Known globally as the creator behind cult-classic masterpieces like Bubba Ho-Tep and the Hap and Leonard book series, Lansdale’s genre-defying career takes center stage in this compelling cinematic portrait.
Directed by Hansi Oppenheimer, All Hail the Popcorn King chronicles how a boy from East Texas became one of the most celebrated, prolific, and fiercely independent voices in modern horror, crime fiction, and dark fantasy. The documentary dives deep into his unique storytelling style, which seamlessly blends terrifying horror, razor-sharp humor, and Southern gothic charm.
The film features exclusive, candid interviews with a stellar lineup of genre icons, filmmakers, and collaborators who have brought Lansdale’s visions to life, headlined by legendary Bubba Ho-Tep star Bruce Campbell. Additional commentary is provided by best-selling author Joe Hill (NOS4A2), veteran actor James Purefoy (Hap and Leonard), and many more industry insiders.
All Hail the Popcorn King serves as an essential viewing experience for dedicated horror aficionados, independent filmmakers, and literary fans alike. It offers a rare, behind-the-scenes masterclass on how to navigate the entertainment industry while maintaining creative control and an authentic voice.
BayView Entertainment will distribute the film across major digital, VOD, and physical home media platforms this June.
