Kelly Rowland and Mugler are meant to be. The singer attended the “Nope” premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on July 18 wearing a slinky look by the French fashion brand. Rowland’s dress featured a midi hemline with a draped skirt, mesh-panel bodice with several hip cutouts, and thin straps running down the back.
Rowland paired the dress with matching black lace-up heels and diamond teardrop earrings as well as several rings and tennis bracelets. Rowland also carried an embellished box clutch down the star-studded red carpet. Overall, the outfit felt reminiscent of the sheer Jean-Louis Sabaji dress Rowland wore to the most recent Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.
Mugler has been known for its sexy silhouettes and campy flourishes since its launch in the 1970s. Over subsequent decades, the eponymous brand, first led by the late Thierry Mugler, delivered memorable style moments such as the shell dress worn by Cardi B to the 2019 Grammy Awards. Mugler was also responsible for Kim Kardashian’s mermaid look at the 2019 Met Gala. Mugler died in January at age 73, and celebrities are continuing to honor the designer and his impact on fashion throughout the year.
Rowland’s dress caused quite a stir on social media. In less than a day, her Instagram post inspired over 100,000 likes and many flame-emoji comments, including from fellow Destiny’s Child alum Michelle Williams. Tina Knowles-Lawson, meanwhile, wrote, “Beautiful Kelly,” and Ziwe simply commented, “Wow.” See photos of the red carpet outfit and shop the dress ahead.
