Negan and Maggie Appear in ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’

Do you want the good news first or the bad news? The good, you say? Okay. Well, Eli Roth is finally giving fans what they have been dying for. That’s right the Hostel director is finally making a feature-length film for the faux Thanksgiving trailer from 2007’s Thanksgiving.

The Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez-directed, Grindhouse double feature was filled with faux 70’s styled trailers directed by Eli Roth, Rob Zombie and Eli Roth.

Roth’s Thanksgiving trailer was a mirror of Juan Piquer Simón’s Pieces. The trailer took place during a small town’s Thanksgiving parade and festivities in which a slasher was racking up the body count. The tone of the trailer was hilarious and featured a Blood Rage-like scene in which blood was tasted to reassure police that the blood was indeed blood. Well, it isn’t cranberry sauce.

Over the years Roth has gone back and forth on the idea of bringing the picture to full feature status. But, following a recent appearance on Mick Garris’ Post Mortem Podcast, Roth once again brought up the project. It appears that the explosion of fan interest all over again has made Roth step back 15 years and finally bring the Grindhouse-y Thanksgiving to life.

It is happening and according to Deadline, Roth will begin filming the holiday slasher this March.

Now for the bad news.

In order to get Thanksgiving going, Roth had to step away from Gearbox Software’s Borderlands adaptation. Roth has spent the past couple of years filming the monumental video game adaptation. Now, he is handing over the keys to friend and fellow director Tim Miller to handle re-shoots. To be clear, Roth was mostly finished with Borderlands, it is only reshoots that will be picked up by Miller. Borderlands has been a monumental undertaking and stars Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and more.

Sure, we are excited to see what Roth’s Borderlands looks like, but that has been pushed to the side. All we want now is to see the long-awaited Thanksgiving.

The only thing that would make this more amazing is if this acted as a Grindhouse sequel and saw Roth’s Thanksgiving and Edgar Wright’s Don’t or Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS play as a double-feature once again.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Roth’s Thanksgiving?
