Hostilities between the two main tribes in Marsabit County the Borana and Gabra communities continue to simmer under the surface, occasionally bursting into open acts of violence. From watering points to pasture and even politics, just about anything can act as a trigger. But something unusual is happening; the expression of hostility is moving from the vast arid rangelands to the urban areas and the streets of the county headquarters Marsabit town. From November 2021 to date 40 people have lost their lives, property worth millions destroyed, schools shut down in what citizen tv’s Hassan Mugambi reports as a worryingly deadly new pattern to the conflict.
