Keke Palmer is receiving backlash from fans after revealing that the upcoming episode of her podcast will feature actor Jonathan Majors, who was earlier convicted of assault and harassment. Here’s how people reacted to the announcement.
Keke Palmer criticized for inviting Jonathan Majors on her podcast
Keke Palmer is facing backlash for inviting Jonathan Majors on her podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer. The episode, titled “No Easy Answers: Accountability and Moving Forward with Jonathan Majors,” is gearing up to be released publicly on April 8. The announcement sparked controversy, given Majors’ recent legal troubles.
The controversy began when it was revealed that Majors would be appearing on Palmer’s podcast. Some even speculated that the announcement was an April Fool’s joke. Many social media users criticized Keke Palmer for giving Jonathan Majors a platform, especially considering her past advocacy against abuse.
In 2023, Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Public opinion on Palmer’s decision remains split. Some defend her decision, arguing that people can choose not to listen if they disagree. A fan stated, “That sounds like a fun episode! I can’t wait to hear what they discuss.”
Others, however, question why she would give a platform to someone with a history of abuse, especially given her own past experiences with domestic violence. Some even pointed to Keke Palmer’s past defense of problematic figures, such as R. Kelly, during a 2018 Breakfast Club interview, as further evidence of a pattern. One user wrote, “It’s so easy to just not do things like this and stay on the right side of history…bad move.”
The description of Jonathan Major’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer episode talks about the complexity of accountability. “This conversation isn’t here to give you all the answers—it’s complicated, it’s messy—but hopefully, it brings us a little closer to understanding the complex emotional landscape of the time we’re living through.” (via Buzzfeed)
