The Raids Iko Uwais To Star in Brand New Silat Action Thriller

Iko Uwais, the star of the popular action movies The Raid and The Raid 2, will headline a new Indonesian action thriller. The feature will incorporate the Silat-based fighting style that has been a staple in Uwais’ career.

Iko Uwais to lead the cast of Indonesian action thriller Warrior

Uwais will star in Warrior (Pendekar), an action thriller from director John Radel. Indonesian industry veteran Delon Tio is producing the movie with Yeti Entertainment’s Erika North and Nick North and Red Packet Media’s Mike Leeder.

Warrior revolves around a former elite Silat practitioner who gets out of prison with hopes of a fresh start. Things take an unexpected turn when a Malaysian crime syndicate gains control of his neighborhood and threatens his loved ones. The protagonist soon finds himself standing between the syndicate and the community he seeks to protect (via Variety).

The movie will reportedly start production this summer, with filming taking place in Indonesia in its entirety, with local locations, crew, and martial artists. Besides leading the cast, Uwais will also serve as an executive producer on the feature with Ryan Susanto through the Uwais Pictures label.

Warrior is the first project that the collaboration between Asia Media Alliance Group and Nation Pictures will produce. It will also mark Radel’s first movie as a solo director.

Previously, Radel co-directed the 2008 film Dance of the Dragon. Additionally, he has served as cinematographer and producer on multiple well-known movies, including After the Dark and Headshot.

Uwais is one of the most prominent actors in the Indonesian film industry. He has also found considerable international success. He has portrayed various memorable characters in movies like Headshot, Mile 22, The Night Comes for Us, and Stuber. Uwais also portrayed the main character, Kai Jin, in the 2019 Netflix supernatural action series Wu Assassins.
