Inspired by her own personal journey, author Kimberly Getty’s book 25 Years of Sex & Dating explores the highs and lows of dating in the modern age. Recounting her own romantic and sexual exploits, Getty shares with the reader her struggle to find ‘the one’ out there in the dating pool. When true love comes hand-in-hand with heartbreak, she has to face the ultimate question: whether it’s better to have never loved, or if loss makes the love all the more worth it.
We got the chance to talk with Getty on what it was like to put her story out there in the world.
Q: Why did you write this book?
A: I wrote this book because my life has been a crazy ride dating men. I dated for years and never found my true love. However, little did I know that one man I dated in my 20s would end up being my future husband. I knew I had to write a book when he died two years after we married.
Q: Tell us the basic storyline of this book.
A: This book is about love, dating, and transforming myself as a young woman who was once overweight. My whole life changed when I was nineteen, and the crazy dating life began.
Q: What are some of the biggest lessons you learned from your experience?
A: You learn a lot about your life when you write it down on paper. You learn lessons about what to do and what you need to change.
Q: Can you tell us an anecdote from the book that you find particularly compelling that will help entice people to read it?
A: In the book, I break out into blurbs called Sexual Intermission Thoughts and Kimmy Thoughts. The Kimmy Thoughts are personal thoughts about what I think about life, and the Sexual Intermission Thoughts are racy fantasies I have been having since I have not dated since the loss of my husband.
Q: What was the most difficult part of the book to write?
A: The last three chapters were brutal but therapeutic at the same time.
Q: What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
A: To gain confidence, be yourself and experiment as much as possible in life.
Kimberly Getty is so excited about her new book release! It’s been hell and healing at the same time — her dating life was crazy up until she met her husband. Very strange how things work out in life.
Writing about herself has been a life lesson for sure. Cherish every moment you have here on earth. Her book is racy, sexual and funny, and also at the end, sad. She wishes for all readers to be themselves!
