When it comes to genre-crossing and blurring the lines between what a movie genre can explore, the horror genre is one of the most diverse. This is exemplified by the way horror films effortlessly combine romantic drama with horrifying exploration. There’s something about romance and horror that complements each other, whether it’s for the vulnerability or the intensity. While some horror films just use a relationship as a story device, others successfully integrate romantic drama with the scary world of the horror film. These are rare films that can be both horrifying and romantic at the same time.
It’s not just about murder, guts, and deaths in the horror genre. Since the earliest appearance of heroines in gothic horror tales, romance has been an essential element of the genre. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole, published in 1764, was one of the first stories to combine romance and terror. The Castle of Otranto is a drama and a love story in which a peasant boy saves a Lady from a greedy Lord’s marriage and, in the process, becomes a prince. Other gothic books, such as The Vampyre and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, have a stronger horror element because they include men and women falling in love with deadly paranormal creatures and becoming lovers with them. A young woman is the focus of a female vampire’s affection in Carmilla.
Today we have compiled a list of the top 10 romantic horror movies which have sizzling chemistry between the protagonists and also deliver quite the punch when it comes to scaring our wits out of us! Let us dive right into it!
