Earlier today (May 17), Weezer performed an acoustic set outside of Paramount Studios’ main entrance in support of the 2023 writers’ strike, where unions representing thousands of film and television writers are asking for a fair contract. For their three-song set, Rivers Cuomo, guitarist Brian Bell, and bassist Scott Shriner played “Beverly Hills,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Buddy Holly” for the Writers Guild of America picket line. “We wanted to try to support you guys and do something fun since you’re standing out here all day,” Shriner told someone in the crowd after the band’s performance. When asked what their favorite TV shows or movies are, Shriner said Game of Thrones, Bell said Dave and Succession, and Cuomo said The Mandalorian.
Last year, Weezer released four EPs to represent each of the seasons. Their most recent studio album, Van Weezer, was a classic rock and hard rock–inspired record that marked their 15th studio LP overall. Weezer will begin their busy summer tour with Modest Mouse, Spoon, Future Islands, Momma, and other acts next month.
