Two people were killed and eight more were injured in a crowd crush a Glorilla show over the weekend, The Associated Press reports. It happened Sunday night (March 5) at Main Street Armory in Rochester, New York, where Glorilla was performing with Finesse2Tymes. One 33-year-old woman, Rhondesia Belton, died as a result, as did another 35-year-old woman whose name has not yet been released. Pitchfork has contacted representatives for Glorilla, Finesse2Tymes, and the Rochester Police Department for comment and more information.
Nicholas Adams, a lieutenant with the Rochester Police Department, told CNN that officers arrived at around 11 p.m. in response to a call about shots fired at the venue, but found a different situation awaiting them. “The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,” Adams said.
“I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf,” Glorilla tweeted with a handful of emoji in the early hours of Monday morning, “praying everybody is ok.”
Crowd crush incidents have become a more prominent concert safety concern since the 2021 disaster at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, which resulted in the deaths of 10 people. Several hundred more were injured at Astroworld, resulting in multiple lawsuits and a congressional investigation.
