The Chicks have have postponed their Los Angeles concert just hours before doors were scheduled to open, citing illness.
The trio announced Monday (Nov. 2) that their show at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre would no longer go ahead as planned and had been rescheduled for Wednesday (Nov. 4). All previously purchased tickets will remain valid for the new date, while fans who are unable to attend can request refunds from their original point of purchase, according to a statement shared by the group.
The postponed show comes as The Chicks near the end of their Taking the Long Way 20th anniversary tour, a run built around the album that became one of the defining releases of their career.
Released in 2006, Taking the Long Way debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to become a major commercial and critical success. Its most enduring single, “Not Ready to Make Nice,” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the group’s signature songs.
The album also dominated the 2007 Grammy Awards, with The Chicks winning five trophies, including album of the year. “Not Ready to Make Nice” took home both record of the year and song of the year.
The record arrived after a turbulent period for the group. In 2003, Natalie Maines criticized then-President George W. Bush and the Iraq War during a concert in London, prompting widespread backlash from parts of the country music industry and conservative audiences in the U.S.
Some country radio stations stopped playing the group’s music, while protests and boycotts followed.
That fallout became a major thematic thread on Taking the Long Way, particularly on “Not Ready to Make Nice,” where The Chicks directly addressed the pressure to apologize and their decision not to back down.
The anniversary tour revisits that chapter two decades later, with Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer performing material from the album alongside songs from across the group’s catalog.
The Chicks also marked the milestone with a 20th anniversary edition of Taking the Long Way, extending the celebration beyond the tour itself.
The album occupies a particularly important place in the group’s history. By the time it arrived, The Chicks had already become one of country music’s biggest acts, but Taking the Long Way pushed them into a different phase — one shaped as much by public controversy and artistic independence as commercial success.
The trio have continued to perform and release music in the years since, most recently issuing Gaslighter in 2020, their first studio album in 14 years, while the current anniversary run has brought the group back to theaters and venues across the U.S. as they revisit the songs and circumstances surrounding Taking the Long Way.
The postponed Dolby Theatre performance is now scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4.
