Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum Getting Remake

Considered to be one of the most terrifying modern found footage movies ever made, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is getting a remake. But hold on, it’s not America (yet) that’s appropriating the idea this time. Let’s thank Indonesia, which might actually be a good thing. The country has put out some good horror movies in the past, and this kind of story seems like it’s right up their alley.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the title of the film is…well, Korean Haunted Hospital — Sounds like a Wayans Bros. parody, but it’s not. In fact, it’s reported to be a very close copy of the original.

The 2018 original was directed by Jung Bum-shik and has the ability to get under your skin. It’s a creepiness that not many filmmakers have been able to duplicate in the genre. Whether that uneasiness will transfer to Korean Haunted Hospital remains to be seen. Anggy Umbara is directing this version, which will be released next month. Where to watch? When I learned this remake was being developed, I immediately knew I had to be part of it. I poured my fears, curiosity, scepticism, and excitement into every character and scene.”
