Tom Cruise recently checked out the latest Steven Spielberg movie, Disclosure Day. While at a screening, Cruise showed off his special Spielberg-themed popcorn bucket, an item that unironically was better than the official one from the movie.
Cruise recently took to social media to share some photos of himself at a screening for the movie. He was joined by Colin Farrell and Dakota Fanning, two stars he worked with in the past on Spielberg movies Minority Report and War of the Worlds, respectively. Cruise celebrated Spielberg in the post, but what caught people’s eye was the popcorn bucket Cruise had.
The bucket itself was a bust of Spielberg, complete with his iconic glasses and hat. Popcorn could be seen poking out of the top of “Spielberg’s” hat, and Cruise held it proudly in each picture. While a fun nod to the director, Cruise’s popcorn bucket would honestly have been a better option than the one available to everyone.
Tom Cruise’s Steven Spielberg popcorn bucket should’ve been the real one
The official popcorn bucket for Disclosure Day is modeled after a deer and a bird resting on its antlers. The bucket might seem obscure, but for those who have seen the movie, it fits in quite well. However, as a popcorn bucket, it really has no standalone allure. The movie itself is an original project, so any bucket made of it would be mostly unknown to audiences.
Since a bucket of something like a UFO or alien would be way too spoiler-filled, it would have been fun to see Universal lean into the Spielberg of it all. Steven is a legendary director and recognizable by face alone, so making a popcorn bucket out of him would not only have been funny, but pretty topical as well given it is his latest movie.
Of course, it’s entirely possible Spielberg would never have gone for that sort of thing. Instead, we’re left to look at Cruise’s popcorn bucket in jealousy.
